Course 1: An Introduction GNU/Linux and the command line
For beginners, and for users of Windows who wish to learn how to manage sites hosted on GNU/Linux.
Our first Positive Skills course starts at the very beginning which, as an ex nun once sung, is a very good place to start. If you have a GNU/Linux-based hosting account and need to brush up your UNIX do-re-mis, our first two-day course could be just the ticket.
On the first day, we take you on a whirlwind tour of the command line: the place where all the GNU/Linux action happens. We'll show you how to move and copy files without needing to drag and drop your way through tedium, to edit text without having to download it first, stop and start services, save a machine from eating up all its memory and more. Once you're out of the whirlwind, you'll have our comprehensive pack of course materials to guide you step by step through what you've learned, and the helpful backup of our tutors just an Email away.
The second day takes what we have learned into a practical realm, where we use all our skills in setting up a web service from scratch, just as you could do on your own Dolphin server, for example.
Course 1 Sample 1 (A section from the introduction)
